In a Nutshell

The Nutshell is a vibrant centre for the arts in the heart of Winchester, a space where the whole community can come together to experience the wealth of diverse artistic talent living in the city. The Nutshell offers an exciting programme of workshops, small-scale performances and exhibitions along with providing a versatile rehearsal and studio space for creative organisations.

Our story so far…

For many years, Winchester had a problem. We were a city brimming with talent and creative ideas but with a lack of spaces to rehearse, exhibit and perform.

For Noël Jones, Harriet Morris and Anna Harding this was, frankly, unacceptable.  Noël and Harriet are the driving force behind the award-winning ENCORE Youth Theatre and Discarded Nut Theatre Company and Anna is part of The Spitfire Sisters and Co-Director of Winchester Jazz Festival.

In 2018 the trio set about doing something about it. They went on a hunt to find a suitable building and found Winchester’s former Antique Market, and with great support from Winchester City Council, renovations started on the new Nutshell in mid 2018.
